|For most of the Barclay’s Premiership season it seemed inconceivable that Chelsea would be challenged for the title. However, as season’s end drawing close, and Manchester United lurk even closer, there must be a few nerves at Stamford Bridge.|
There are also frayed nerves at online bookmaker William Hill, who would be delighted if Chelsea crumbled on the run home. Currently, they are offering odds of 7/1 that Chelsea will pull-off one of the greatest footballing chokes and hand the Premiership title to bitter rivals, Manchester United.
Hills also are offering 16/1 odds that the two end on the same points total; 100/1 that they end with the same points total AND the same goal difference - and 1000/1 that they have the same points, the same goal difference AND the same number of goals scored and conceded.
Chelsea are still firm favourites to win the title at 1/16, but this has dramatically come in from the shortest price of 1/500 just a few weeks ago. With Chelsea having taken most of the money all season, the bookies would be delighted if there was a slip up at such a late stage.
Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe, said, 'At long last the title race is becoming competitive enough to introduce a range of markets To paraphrase Kevin Keegan, we'd just love it if Chelsea slipped up on the run-in!'
