Fergie and Players Rebuke Rooney Gambling Claims

British tabloid reports claiming that England soccer star Wayne Rooney has a gambling addiction have been rebuked by both fellow players and the player’s club manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

The tabloid report suggested that the 20-year-old’s gambling related problems had got so bad that he had a massive bust-up with fellow England star Michael Owen, who he allegedly blamed for introducing him to gambling, and it was also reported that Rooney even lost one of his cars during a game of poker.

Sir Alex Ferguson has rejected the claims in their entirety saying that the press are just out to write anything they can about the starlet in much the same way as they did about David Beckham and Paul Gascoigne.

Meanwhile former England and Arsenal star Paul Merson, who himself admitted to a gambling addiction in the past spoke out in the Manchester Evening News, saying, “'Does Wayne have a problem? No. If a postman or a milkman earns £300 a week and spends £310 a week, then he is in trouble. It's a lot of money, but Wayne earns a lot....'
