Forty players from around the world will face-off in a series of single table 'shoot-out' tournaments, with the winning nation decided in a dramatic four-handed grand final. The online qualifying events for the World Cup of Poker got underway several weeks ago, with 39 countries competing for the right to take part in the 'live' finals in Barcelona, Spain. The teams from England, USA, Canada, Brazil, Ireland, Iceland, Israel and Poland will consist of five players, who will all enjoy an all-expenses paid trip to Spain.
PokerStars.com Head of Communications Conrad Brunner says, 'The PokerStars World Cup of Poker reflects the international appeal of the game. Expect to see large numbers of qualifiers battling it out on PokerStars for a chance to represent their country and show the rest of the world how it's done.'
The finals will be televised by award-winning production company Sunset+Vine, and broadcast on Challenge TV in the UK and other channels around the world.
