Casinos and minors will need to be extra vigilant this summer! The police have announced that over this summer, they will be paying extra attention to casinos and minors. The Division of Gaming Enforcement and State Police will use undercover agents and increased surveillance to unveil underage gambling and casinos in dozens of casinos. DGE Director J.P Suarez commented that although casinos are doing a fairly good job, this crackdown will bring attention to the problem and highlight what else needs to be done. Police arrested 102 minors for gambling offences during the four-month summer period last year and 175 during the same period in 1999. Anyone under age 21 caught drinking or gambling is subject to a disorderly persons offence, punishable by up to six months in jail and fines of up to $1,000.
