Internet Gambling Bill Moves A Step Forward
By nisha
The bill which will make gambling legal in Nevada, has moved another step forward. The bill that will make Nevada the first state to legalize online gambling was passed by the Senate Judiciary Committee 6-1 on Monday (21st May) and is now heading for a full senate vote this week, which if passed would create a framework to legalize the industry. Merle Berman, the Republican Assemblywoman from Las Vegas, one of the main advocates of the bill has estimated that once passed, online gaming will generate around $83 million in revenue. There are two main parts to the bill: the first will give regulators the power to oversee online gaming in the state and the other would set up a system of licensing fees and taxes for companies that operate such online gaming sites. The bill still has to go through many more votes before it can be put into action, but each step forward marks triumph for those who have been fighting for online gaming to be legalised for many years.
