Gambling and Internet implicated in murder case

The 34-year-old wife of a company worker slain Saturday in Osaka Prefecture, Japan, has been arrested for asking her lover to kill her husband, police officials said.

According to police, Kikuno Fusamara asked for Tadao Yamada’s advice on divorce and her husband's heavy debts, which accumulated from her husband Suichi's gambling habits and family expenses.

She separated from her husband in January and has been dating Yamada, whom she became acquainted with through an Internet dating site last summer, police claim.

Fusamura of Otsu, Shiga Prefecture, has admitted asking Yamada to kill her husband, Shuichi, 36. She offered him part of the 30 million yen in life insurance benefits she expected to gain from her husband's death, the officials said, quoting the suspect after her arrest Wednesday.

Yamada, 46, was arrested Sunday on suspicion of stabbing the husband in the chest and abdomen while inside the victim's car in Moriguchi in the early hours of Saturday.

Kikuno and Yamada conspired to lure Shuichi from his apartment in Moriguchi on Saturday morning, and Yamada attacked him inside the victim's car, police said.

Before he died, Shuichi reportedly told his would-be rescuers that he had been 'attacked by Shimizu, the detective.' Records of cellular phones used by the Fusamuras indicate that 'Shimizu' was in fact Yamada, police said.
