|Dublin based online sports book Paddy Power has made a swift reaction to the departure of former West Ham manager Alan Pardew by posting early odds on his successor, with Alan Curbishley emerging as the strong favourite.|
A host of names have been linked with the job following the decision by the West Ham Chairman and board to terminate Pardew’s contract after a poor run of form which has left the club languishing in the bottom three.
Paddy Power spokesman Darren Haines explained, “Pardew’s exit came as no surprise to punters. He’d been backed in to 6/5 to be the next Premiership manager to go in our Sack Race betting. Curbishley is one of the few high profile managers currently available, and as a former player he certainly fits West Ham’s history and tradition.”
Former Charlton boss Curbishley is currently a 4/6 favourite with former England managers Sven Goran Eriksson and Glenn Hoddle also in the race at 9/2 and 20/1 respectively.
Paddy Power also have a number of other former Hammers in contention, with Iain Dowie at 10/1, Harry Redknapp at 20/1, Teddy Sheringham at 25/1 Croatia’s Slaven Bilic at 66/1 and rather bizarrely Alf Garnett is a 500/1 outsider.
