|The Independent betting brokerage, Betbrokers, has announced the appointment of identity management specialist GB Group, in an effort to help the company achieve a ‘gold standard’ in responsible gaming.|
Betbrokers will be using GB Group's web-based electronic identity verification service, URUTM, to verify the age and identity of all new customers to help prevent underage gambling, identity fraud and money laundering.
The company will also be using URU to electronically replicate its previously manual and paper-based identity processing system - a move that is predicted to reduce costs by as much as 70 percent. URU, which confirms the identity of players within a matter of seconds, will allow Betbrokers to process hundreds of new customer accounts every week.
The decision comes as Betbrokers' chairman Wayne Lochner revealed that customer numbers have grown by 25 percent since listing on London’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM) in October 2006.
He explained, “As the world's first independent betting brokerage, and a recent entrant to AIM, it's vital that we set a gold standard for bringing on new players - and GB Group's URU service is key to achieving this.”
“The service means we are fully compliant with the UK's Know Your Customer (KYC) guidelines and the Financial Services Authority's money laundering rules - and because it verifies identities in a matter of seconds, it does not hamper the application process.”
Richard Law, chief executive of GB Group, added, “Betbrokers is a great example of a pioneering gambling company that is making it as difficult as possible for people to use its services illegally, while keeping a firm eye on protecting its customers and shareholders,” he said.
Betbrokers, which was recently named by eGaming Review as the industry's 'Start-up operator of the year' in 2006, appointed GB Group following a recommendation from its bank, Barclays.
