|Rank is to open a Hard Rock Casino in Manchester, its first outside Las Vegas, and one of the first new venues to open since the government unveiled plans to relax Britain's gambling laws. |
The all-night casino will open in July in the Printworks leisure and shopping complex in the city centre. Rank said it hoped the venue would help the industry shed its seedy image, widening the appeal of casino gambling to a more mainstream audience.
Rank said it picked Manchester over London for the flagship venue because of the city's vibrant entertainment scene, although a casino is planned for the capital later this year.
The 22,000 sq ft casino, which will accommodate 550 punters, will offer electronic roulette and traditional games such as blackjack, along with 50 slot machines.
Changes in the gaming laws are expected to prompt a flurry of investment in new supercasinos, offering bingo, betting and entertainment under one roof.
