France Says Non To EU Attack
By Miriam H
The French government has rejected the European Commissionís (EC) warning that it should scrap its uncompetitive gambling laws and hit back at the EC by declaring that it will defend its policies at the European Unionís highest court.

The EU cautioned France that it would take court action against the country unless it modified a law prohibiting foreign gambling companies from advertising in France ó a ban that forced the cycling team to withdraw from this month's Tour de France.

'France esteems that the restrictions existing in the exploitation of gambling and betting comply with the conditions posed by the European Court of Justice,' the Finance Ministry said in a statement.

EU law outlines that gambling, like all other goods or services, should have freedom of movement between Europeís 27 member nations.
