The Malaysian National News Agency has reported that police in the south Asian nation detained eleven people and seized 24 personal computers recently following a raid in the southern district of Johor Bahru.

Police stated that the computers seized had been used in illegal gambling activities in the Permas Jaya housing estate, which has a population of 40,000.

The raid took place late last week near the large city of Johor Bahru in southern Malaysia, which has a population of 1.2 million and serves as the capital of the district. It lies only a few miles from the island nation of Singapore, just across the Straits of Johor.

The Deputy Chief of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) for Johor, Che Yussof Che Ngah, said that ten of those detained were men and that cash was also seized in the raid. He stated that police had to climb over adjacent premises and break into the gambling den on the ground floor with those detained found on the fourth floor.
