Online Casinos Still Gambling with Life Say IGC

Findings from the UK’s recently published gambling prevalence study have identified that while the problem gambling has not increased it remains at the same precarious level as 8 years ago, according to the Interactive Gaming Council (IGC).

The IGC, headed by gaming representatives from PartyGaming and software developer CryptoLogic, argued that there was little change in the problem gambling figures since the last survey in 1999, with gambling still negatively affecting around 0.6 percent of the population 16 years old and above, highlighting the need for more preventionist work from gaming firms and other bodies.

‘This is an important study that provides valuable insights and benchmarks, but the findings are no cause for celebration or for relaxing our programs to mitigate problem gambling,’ said John FitzGerald, Chief Executive of the IGC.

‘Even one problem gambler is one too many, and the IGC, along with its members, will continue with its efforts to ensure that Internet gamblers continue to enjoy this form of entertainment in a socially responsible manner.’
