|The New York Racing Association (NYRA) has announced an agreement with Sona Mobile Holdings Corp to provide mobile betting options for people via mobile telephones through its mWager application.|
'This will allow NYRA to offer our customers the ultimate in wagering privacy,' said John Ryan, Senior Vice-President for NYRA.
mWager is a mobile wagering application for the horse racing industry and users would need to register with the NYRA's online wagering system before downloading software from Sona to phones equipped with Windows Mobile.
If approved by the State Racing And Wagering Board, the service could include access to information on the horse, owner and trainer as well as odds scratches and race results. All forms of wagers could be allowed and it would allow the gambler to place wagers without going to a site, calling a betting line or going to a terminal.
'The horseracing enthusiast wants to be able to look at everything,' said Shawn Kreloff, Chief Executive for Sona Mobile.
Kreloff said that Sona Mobile has partnered with Motorola and the Daily Racing Form to provide a complete experience for the horseracing fan and that, in the future, they will be able to watch races on their phones.
NYRA said that some level of protection would be included such as passwords and PIN numbers to prevent fraud and ensure the authenticity of the person making the bet, but there has been no mention of age verification or determents for problem gamblers.
