|In America, a man that earlier pleaded guilty to charges of promoting online gambling has been sentenced to four months in jail as part of a probationary sentence and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.|
William Motto admitted in September to participating in online gambling at a site set up by Vincent ‘Big Vince’ Filipelli, a former bodybuilding champion and alleged member of the Philadelphia mob indicted earlier on gambling and weapons charges following a police sting.
Officials claim that Filipelli ran an unnamed online sportsbetting website for several years. It addition, the New Jersey Attorney General's Office alleged that Filipelli threatened an undercover agent in Philadelphia over a gambling debt incurred at the sportsbetting website.
Filipelli earlier pleaded guilty to interstate travel in aid of racketeering, a charge that could bring a 20 year prison sentence, and is currently being held on new charges of taking bets over the Internet, conspiracy to promote gambling, promoting gambling and possession of gambling records. Officials announced that additional charges of possession of steroids and money laundering are also being contemplated following a raid on Filipelli’s home a year ago.
Motto is to serve his sentence in Camden County Jail in southern New Jersey after being sentenced for the third-degree state charge brought by the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice by Superior Court Judge Thomas Brown.
