Taiwan Raid Nets Nine
By Staff
In Taiwan, police have arrested nine suspects on suspicion of operating an online sports gambling operation following raids in the centre of the island nation.

Police in Nantou County stated that they had conducted raids in Taichung City and Puli Township and seized evidence including computer files, counting machines, surveillance monitors and client lists. The head of Nantou County Police, Lin Yi-Min, stated that the operation was the largest ever to be broken in central Taiwan with his office confiscating millions of dollars in bets.

Police stated that they had recently established a special task force in co-operation with the local prosecutors office and several other government agencies to stop online gambling in the run-up to legislative and Presidential elections. This unit’s investigations led them to target operations based in Taichung City and Puli Township.
