Online Casino Sets Another Record
By Staff
Online poker room PokerStars.com has announced that it has set another record for the number of simultaneous players at a time.

Last week, PokerStars.com announced that over 20,000 real-money players were online simultaneously but this record has now been shattered with the declaration that the site saw 22,293 players taking part in games this week.

The site also claimed that it set another new record for overall Internet poker traffic on December 20 when 150,000 visitors were on the site at once.

'The playing frenzy was evident in the big Sunday tournaments at PokerStars.com,” wrote Brad ‘Otis’ Willis in a blog on the site.

“The quarterly $1,050 buy-in Sunday Million drew more than 1,800 players to compete for a $1.8 million prize pool.'

PokerStars.com claims to be the world's largest online poker site and these latest numbers emphasise just how successful the operation has become especially since the exit of competitors such as PartyPoker.com and PacificPoker.com from the US market.

In February 2006, PokerStars.com became the first online poker site to host 100,000 simultaneous visitors in February of 2006, an achievement that saw it included in the following year's Guinness Book of World Records.
