|Vietnam is on the verge of awarding an official investment certificate for a Disneyland-style theme park in the coastal town of Vung Tau.|
Phan Huu Thang, Director General for the Foreign Investment Agency under The Ministry Of Planning And Investment, stated that the $1.3 billion project was being scrutinised by Vietnamese authorities.
“We hope that the common support from Governmental agencies will result in an investment certificate for the project,” said Thang.
“Therefore, it will be a big complement to Vietnam’s foreign direct investment.”
He stated that Good Choice Imports, Exports And Investment Inc, an affiliate of leading American real estate firm Platinum Dragon Empire Inc, submitted an investment application in November for the Vung Tau Wonderful World Theme Park project, which will cover nearly 200 hectares and be modelled on Disneyland.
The project would also house an 88-storey Landmark Tower alongside cinemas, open-air stages, a conference centre and shopping mall and hotels and restaurants. There would also be the ‘Wonders of the World’ area that would feature replicas of the Eiffel Tower, the Golden Gate Bridge and the Pyramids.
“Despite being a popular tourist destination in the south, tourist and recreational facilities in Vung Tau are just a few,” said William Lee, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer for Platinum Dragon Empire.
Good Choice stated that it was also interested in constructing an aquarium complex in Vung Tau modelled on a complex in Monterey, California.
“The local Government’s spirit is to welcome new potential investors to come and develop tourism related projects,” a local investment and planning official said.
