Kentucky Begins Casino Debate
By Staff
According to a report from the Associated Press news service, thoroughbred horse tracks in the American state of Kentucky have pitched legalised casino gambling to a legislative panel.

The Kentucky General Assembly opened its 2008 session last week with lawmakers expected to consider the proposed constitutional amendment during the coming months that would authorise limited casino gambling throughout the state.

Representatives for the horse tracks stated that no decisions had yet been made on where the casinos would be located if voters were to approve the amendment.

Democrat Governor Steve Beshear stated that the state could take about $500 million per year in new revenues if casino gambling was permitted.
