White-List Status Good For Tasmania
By Staff
According to Betfair Australia, the decision by the UK Government's Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) to grant white-list status to the Tasmanian gambling jurisdiction is good.

Gambling companies in the Australian state may now advertise their wares in the UK market but the DCMS turned down requests from the Kahnawake jurisdiction in Canada and the island nation of Antigua.

Andrew Twaits from Betfair Australia stated that the move would entice more punters to go online and bet on Australian sports with the company likely to aggressively pursue a bigger slice of the English market.

'We have a tremendous pool of overseas customers who we think would be really interested in betting in Australian racing and sporting events,' said Twaits.

'So it was very important for us to do whatever we could to help Tasmania, do whatever we could to make sure Tasmania was on the white-list so we can advertise over there.

'It's fantastic news for Betfair as a business and it is great news for Tasmania because they share in our success.”

However, the white-list status will not help all of Tasmania’s licensed gambling groups as Tote Tasmania cannot advertise in the UK as it is not legally permitted to advertise outside of the state.
