|In America, the Washington State Gambling Commission has issued a special warning to potential online gamblers reminding them that all online gambling activity is illegal in the state.|
The caution stated that players discovered betting over the Internet, even from the privacy of their own homes, are guilty of a Class C felony punishable by up to three months in jail and a fine of $10,000.
The Commission’s warning comes in advance of this Sunday’s Super Bowl clash between the New England Patriots and New York Giants, the biggest annual sporting event in America, and critics claim that it simply an attempt to channel potential players into State-taxed and well protected land gambling venues, which Washington has in abundance. According to the Offshore Gaming Association, over $500 million will be bet on the Super Bowl through websites and call centres by more than 60 million people using over 1,800 foreign-based sites.
'Not only is it illegal but you might win and not get paid,” said Susan Arland from the Commission.
“So you could gamble all day and throw all that money away and you have no recourse.'
