|American interactive entertainment software developer, publisher and distributor THQ has announced a deal with Playboy Enterprises Inc to cultivate lifestyle-themed, non-nude mobile games.|
The first of the series, expected to launch this summer, will be Playboy Games: Pool Party, which is to feature a set of mini-games depicting animated, bikini-clad Playmates at the famous Playboy Mansion engaged in 'pool party sports' including water balloon fights, waterslide slaloms and aquatic mechanical bull riding.
Although the terms of the deal were not disclosed, it is thought that the deal is only worth a fraction of the $137 million Jamdat paid in 2005 for Blue Lava Wireless, who held the license for Tetris.
The US mobile gaming market is growing, although slower than the broader mobile data market, with total revenues of $173 million for the third quarter of last year. Although this was a rise of some 24 percent year-over-year, overall mobile data revenues including text messaging and web access grew 56 percent with US wireless carriers taking in $679 million in revenues from mobile games over the past twelve months.
