|Federal prosecutors in Manhattan seized a total of $717 million in assets from online gambling operations, corporate fraudsters and drug traffickers last year.|
Officials in the New York City borough stated that another $450 million could be seized over the coming months as a result of plea bargain agreements negotiated by Manhattan US Attorney Michael Garcia.
The $136 million forfeited by online payment processor NETeller constitutes a portion of the total after two of its top officials pleaded guilty to criminal charges of promoting offshore gambling.
Manhattan’s haul is more than half of the total seizures recorded by all Federal prosecutors across the nation for the fiscal year ending in October with the nearby Brooklyn US attorney's office ranking third in the nation with $49.2 million in seizures.
Also included in Manhattan’s total is four million dollars of the total $60 million to be turned over by Norman Hsu, the alleged mastermind of a scheme where investors were strong-armed into donating to the Presidential campaign of Senator Hillary Clinton.
