|The first poker tour for the world’s second most populous nation, India, will take place this autumn with qualification available through a series of live and online satellite events.|
The India Poker Tour (IPT) will begin in Mumbai in September before moving on to Bangalore and Delhi with the final taking place in the coastal state of Goa. The prize pool of one million dollars is expected to attract some of the best poker players from the subcontinent and the world and build on the success seen at last year’s Asian Poker Classic.
“Our goal is to add poker to the pastimes of the card and sport-crazed fans of India,” said Imran Hassan, Director of Operations for IPT.
“India traditionally has had a long history of being a card-loving nation. So we hope the launch of the India Poker Tour (IPT) will now help to satisfy India’s craving for skill-based card games.”
Players will be able to quality for the event via live and online satellites starting in June with dates and online partners to be announced soon. As part of the Tour, players may even be able to compete in a special television programme being made for the IPT.
As part of its mission to ensure that the development of poker in India is carried out in a professional and responsible manner, the IPT will also be launching its India Poker Schools initiative to help those interested in learning or developing the game.
