| UK online bookmaker Sportingbet plc has secured the right to operate a sports betting and gaming facility on the Sports.com domain.|
The domain was owned by the now defunct Sports.com Ltd, which was placed into administration on May 31. According to Sportingbet, the Sports.com site attracts a global audience of over 3 million unique users per month.
''Sports.com presents a tremendous opportunity for Sportingbet Plc to provide sports betting and gaming services to what is undoubtedly one of the leading domain names on the internet, '' said Sportingbet group chief executive Nigel Payne.
''We believe that the Sports.com domain provides an opportunity to build a very substantial business by providing customers with the opportunity to bet on sporting events on a global basis.”
Sportingbet say they will redesign and re-launch the sports.com website in the next few weeks fully incorporating all of Sportingbet’s technology and betting and gaming functionality.
