Major Firms Eye Turkish Lottery
By Staff
The tender for the privatisation of Turkey’s national lottery is expected in May or June with major international operators alongside national firms already lining up to operate the lucrative business.

Firms such as Britain’s Camelot, OPAP and Intralot from Greece alongside Italy’s Lottomatica are reportedly interested as are Austria’s Osterreichische as well as Turkey's Koc, Sabanci, Dogan, Cukurova and Dogus firms. The winner of the tender would be expected to begin operating the national lottery in early 2010 at the latest for a period of between seven to ten years.

The Government has stated that the agreement for the transfer of operating rights for the lottery would include clauses for a guaranteed State share out of the turnover for the benefit of public institutions and national defence.
