|Online casino FullTiltPoker.com has signed a deal to become the title sponsor for the World Series of Golf, a Las Vegas-based sports and entertainment event scheduled for later this month.|
The Alderney-licensed site stated that the deal could yield a variety of strategic branding prospects between itself and the World Series of Golf including multi-platform opportunities spanning broadcast television, international print media and the Internet.
'The World Series of Golf is a sports and entertainment company with a global strategy that encompasses live events, television content and online enterprises,' said Terry Leiweke, President and Chief Executive Officer for the World Series of Golf.
'As we strategically grow our brand, the synergies that will result from our relationship with the leading virtual card room service will be mutually beneficial to both our companies.'
Although the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, FullTiltPoker.com will field a team of golfers at the event including Phil Ivey, David Benyamine, Brandon Adams, David Grey, Allen Cunningham, David Oppenheim, Andy Bloch, Chris ‘Jesus’ Ferguson and Erick Lindgren. This select group will participate from May 12 to 15 at the Paiute Golf Resort outside Las Vegas, Nevada.
The World Series of Golf features high stakes on each shot of the tournament and players must ante up before teeing off at each hole. Depending on the outcome of the tee shot, a player can raise, call, check or fold on subsequent shots with the winner of the hole collecting the pot. As in poker, when a player no longer has any chips with which to bet, that player is eliminated. The winner of each group then moves onto the next round until the final group yields the winning golfer.
This year's competition will air throughout the United States on June 28 and 29 on CBS Sports.
