|UK-based online gambling operator Betfair has announced the addition of professional poker player John Tabatabai to its stable of top-class talent at Team Betfair.|
Twenty-three-year-old Tabatabai is the game’s latest rising star to join the Betfair team, which already includes young guns Sorel Mizzi and Annette Obrestad. Originally from Cardiff but now living in London, Tabatabai’s original passion was chess and he competed in European and world championship events before turning to poker while attending university.
Tabatabai first hit the headlines after almost defeating fellow Betfair-sponsored professional Obrestad at the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE) (WSOPE) 2007 and has since proved himself by winning the All-Africa Poker Tournament.
'John is a very aggressive poker strategist who also is an absolute class act at the table, which is very refreshing to see,” said John Stubbs, Director of Poker for Betfair.
'Although he came just short in the 2007 WSOPE, he managed to win in South Africa to prove he has what it takes. Like our other young guns, John is making things happen right now and we expect big things from him.'
Stubbs stated that Tabatabai would be playing for Team Betfair at World Series of Poker tournament in Las Vegas, Nevada, in July.
