British Hope Through To Second Round Of Wimbledon
By Staff
Andy Murray, the young British tennis star currently ranked 11th in the world, beat his French opponent Fabrice Santoro 6-3 7-5 7-6 (7-5) to qualify for the second round of the 2008 Wimbledon Championships.

The Frenchman did give his Scotland-born rival some difficulty in the match, spinning the ball effectively and pulling a 4-2 lead in the second set. However, Murray kept a calm and collected game throughout to come back and win a decisive straight sets victory.

'To win in straight sets against someone with as much experience is a good start,' Murray told BBC Sport. 'It was a really fun match. He hit some awesome shots, especially at the beginning, which got the atmosphere going.

'But once I settled down in the second set, I started to feel better about my game.'

Defending champion and world number one Roger Federer is still a favourite to win the tournament at 6/5 from BlueSquare, however those wishing to back the Brit are getting a good price from sites such as ExtraBet – he has beaten Federer twice in their two previous matches.
