Authority Bans Online Spiderman Advert
By Staff
The UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has banned an online advert created by Future Publishing for Littlewoods Gaming because of its potential appeal to children.

The ASA is responsible for deciding whether ads meet strict guidelines and determined that the banner at Littlewoods’ OnlineGamblerWeb.com was irresponsible because it may appeal to children. The advertisement featured the Spiderman superhero to promote the Spiderman 25-line video slot machine but had been pulled after other complaints before any contact from the ASA.

Future Publishing stated that the ad, which featured the strapline ‘The Amazing Spiderman 25 Line Jackpot Slot £50 Sign Up Bonus’, was not intended for children and was on a site where the average age was 41. In addition, both firms said that they have procedures in place to prevent underage gambling.

Littlewoods revealed that it has been using characters from Marvel Comics in its advertisements since 2005 and that this was the first time there had been any problems.
