|The Advertiser reports that Treasury Minister Kevin Foley has allowed the national hotel industry exemptions from the poker machine “super tax” in 130 hotels. The tax will be introduced and affect all other poker machine gaming operators, when the state budge is introduced in August. |
The hotels in question earn between $1.5 million and $3.5 million a year from the poker machines. “The decision is based on increased poker machine revenue growth and will not affect the Budget bottom line,” Foley said.
Rather than the tax applying to the operation of the poker machines in hotels, a new levy has been applied by the Treasury to the sale of these machines, and is expected to raise about $5 million annually.
