|When it comes to having a flutter, women are fast catching up, a survey out today reveals.|
As many as 47% of women are now betting, with many of them putting their money on TV shows such as Big Brother and Pop Stars, the survey from Teletext showed.
But women are more modest bettors, with 91% betting only up to £5 (US$7.80) a time.
The survey also revealed that while males tend to stick to traditional sport, women are more likely to fancy a wager on events such as Wimbledon and the Boat Race, as well as the Eurovision Song Contest and reality TV shows.
Twice as many women than men fancied betting their blouse on Big Brother while the Grand National – still the nation’s favourite gamble – is these days a more important bet for women than men.
