Greek gaming technology supplier Intralot has strengthened its presence in South America by agreeing a contract to be the new online operator for Brazil’s State Lottery of Rio De Janeiro (Loterj).
The deal was agreed through the Athens-based firm’s subsidiary, Intralot Do Brasil, and the first product is set to be a fast draw keno-type game combined with an instant lottery that will be available before the end of the year in an initial network of 1,000 points of sale connected online. Intralot Do Brasil is to have complete control over the operation of the games with the portfolio and network expected to expand over the course of operations.
“The Brazilian market has been very appealing for Intralot as it is one of the most important and fastest developing both on a regional as well as global basis,” said Constantinos Antonopoulos, Chief Executive Officer for Intralot.
“We believe in the potential of the Brazilian market and we are willing to contribute to the evolvement of the gaming market in the country. We hope that this contract will constitute a first but decisive step of Intralot in the Brazilian market. We are looking forward to further strengthening our presence in the country, monitoring new business opportunities.”
The state of Rio De Janeiro has more than 15.5 million people with the highest per capita gross domestic product in Brazil. Loterj has been operating a traditional lottery for more than 60 years and became the market leader in 1991 following the launch of an instant tickets game.
“The partnership signed today between Intralot and Loterj, with all certainty, will change the course of the gaming industry in the state of Rio De Janeiro,” said Sergio Ricardo Martins De Almeida, President for Loterj.
“The participation of a very well known company of the lottery sector will surely broaden the local gaming market and increase the benefits of Loterj.”
