Online Casino Operators Negotiating Settlement With Kentucky
By Staff
The state of Kentucky wants online gambling kept out of their state, using the logic that too much money is being lost to online gaming sites that could be spent gambling on state-sponsored activities. A court hearing has been set for 3:30 today, but as the hearing approaches, negotiations are under way to settle the case before the hearing takes place.
The way Kentucky got the online operators to negotiate was to try and acquire the rights to their domain names – if they seized the domain names, the state government would be able to shut down the sites.
In addition to just blocking people from Kentucky on their sites, the state also wants the online operators to pay for damages for lost revenue the state had to endure.
Governor Steve Beshear, who is a proponent of casino gambling, feels that the many legal gambling options have been hurt economically by the existence of online gambling in the state. He is concerned that these online sites are not taxed and regulated.
