Malaysia Cracks Down On Online Gambling
By Staff
In Malaysia, police have detained twelve people and seized eight computers following a series of raids on cyber cafes suspected of offering online gambling.

The raids were conducted between October 9 and 13 while those arrested included the owners of the premises alongside customers who had frequented the cafes.

'The raids at Air Putih, Jalan Beserah and Gebeng revealed that the cyber cafes had been used as a front for online gambling,” said Mohd Jasmani Yusoff, Police Cheif for the city of Kuantan.

“The premise owners had abused the operating licences given.'

Kuantan is the ninth largest city in Malaysia with a population of approximately 552,000 and the capital for the state of Pahang, the nation’s third largest in terms of area.

Police Cheif Yusoff revealed that the twelve people were in their 20s and 30s and had been detained for investigation under Section 4(1)B of the Common Gaming House Act of 1953.
