Scandinavian online gaming and betting firm Bet24 has announced the appointment of Maria Karlsson as its new Chief Executive Officer, replacing Lotta Lindquist-Brosjo who is set to leave after two years in charge.
Karlsson was appointed as the Chief Financial Officer for Bet24 in 2006 before moving on to assume the post of Deputy Chief Executive Officer in January. She has worked at the Malta-licensed iGaming firm since 2005 and joined from Modern Times Group MTG AB, the international entertainment and broadcasting group that owns Bet24, in 2005 where she had served as a management trainee for a year.
Bet24 was founded in 2001 before being purchased by Modern Times Group in 2005. Since then, it has undergone rapid development to become a profitable business with sales of $49.7 million in 2007 alongside gross profits of $15.7 million and operating profits of $1.2 million. In addition, the firm reported a 29 percent rise in both sales and gross profits for the first nine months of this year.
”Maria has an extensive knowledge of the business as she has been both Chief Financial Officer and Deputy Chief Executive Officer,” said Jorgen Madsen, Chairman for Bet24.
“In her roles, she has also been very much involved in the transformation of Bet24 during the past years and she will be able to take Bet24 to the next level.
”A lot of changes have happened within Bet24 since Lotta joined including both re-focusing and re-organisation. With Lotta as Chief Executive Officer, Bet24 has become a profitable growth company. With the turn-around completed, we have now decided to go our separate ways. I thank her for her strong commitment and hard work.”
