British online gambling provider William Hill has announced the appointment from next week of former BBC Director Ashley Highfield as a Non-Executive Director.

Highfield is currently the Chief Executive Officer for Project Kangaroo, a proposed three-way joint venture between the BBC, ITV and Channel 4 that would offer a commercial on-demand service available over the web and to digital set-top boxes. Before this, he served as the Director of New Media and Technology for the BBC and was a member of both the Executive and Management Boards.

“I am delighted that Ashley has agreed to join the board of William Hill as a Non-Executive Director,” said Charles Scott, Chairman of the Board for William Hill.

“His wide-ranging experience and knowledge of the digital world will be a real asset to the company and our online platforms, bringing an even deeper understanding of existing and emerging technologies and an expert and realistic sense of what can be achieved in this area.”

London-based William Hill has over 2,250 betting shops across the UK and Republic of Ireland and operates an online sportsbook at WilliamHill.co.uk serving from over 150 countries.
