World Series of Poker bracelet-winner and APT ambassador made a fantastic start in the PartyPoker Premier League as the unique tournament begins its third run.
Tran, representing innovative online poker room PKR in the tournament, overcame a 2-1 chip deficit and the skills of WSOP Main Event champion Peter Eastgate to pick up 10 points and $20,000.
The tournament is unique in its structure, pitting 12 of the world’s best players against each other. These include the likes of Tony G, Phil Hellmuth, Annette Obrestad, Dave ‘Devilfish’ Ulliott and Tom Dwan.
All 12 players will play six times in the preliminary stages. The leading four players will then progress to the final table with the next four battling it out in heads-up matches for the final two seats.
Tran was cheered on by his fellow Asian Poker Tour ambassadors Quinn Do and Nam Le at the event in London as he bested the first six-seater heat that also included Ulliott, Obrestad, Roland de Wolfe and Premier League II winner Andy Black.
Tran said: “It has been a fantastic start but there is a long way to go. It is so good to get the first win under the belt. I love the format of the Premier League and am excited about what is going to come.”
