Poker Tops Lycos 2008 List
By Staff
For the third year in a row, the word ‘poker’ was the most searched for term over the Internet according to search engine Lycos and its Top 50 Search Terms For 2008.

The word generated five percent more search activity than billionaire heiress and celebrity Paris Hilton to head the list and was the only gambling term to even make the top 50. The search engine put the popularity of poker down to the continued success of the World Poker Tour and year-round televised celebrity tournaments.

At number three on the list was YouTube followed by the sport of golf while the Republican candidate for Vice-President, Sarah Palin, rounded out the top five. Female pop singer Britney Spears was listed in sixth followed by American Idol contestant Clay Aiken while Facebook was sandwiched in ninth between actresses and models Pamela Anderson and Holly Madison.
