Leading online poker site PokerStars.com has announced that it will attempt to set a new world record later this month for the largest field ever seen for an Internet poker tournament.
The special tournament will be held on the afternoon of December 28 and feature a cap of 35,000 players that, if reached, will see it enter the Guinness Book of World Records. The leading Isle of Man-licensed site held a similar contest last year that saw some 20,000 players take part, a record at the time, with ‘Lynna1’ taking home the $20,000 top prize.
With a buy-in of only $11 alongside a guarantee of $50,000, PokerStars.com stated that it expects to meet the required record level with almost 2,000 players having registered so far. The tournament will feature up to 3,500 tables going simultaneaously with blinds moving very quickly courtesy of ten-minute Turbo-style increases.
For those who wish to take part, simply download PokerStars.com’s free software and then click on the Tournament tab at the top of the screen. From there, click on the Specials tab and look for tournament number 126551369.
