ID thief was Online Gambling Addict

A woman allegedly used money from stolen debit card numbers to feed an apparent addiction to online computer gambling sites, authorities said.

Bonnie Sue Wilson, however, crapped out after state police caught on to her scheme and arrested her, following an investigation that began in July 2001.

Wilson, 41, of Sarasota, Florida, remains in the Butler County Prison in lieu of $50,000 on 48 counts of computer fraud and identity theft.

The defendant was extradited last week from Florida, where she was arrested on a warrant issued in May by District Justice Clifford Woessner in Slippery Rock.

Police initiated the investigation when a Lawrence County woman notified the First National Bank of Slippery Rock after finding a number of unauthorized debit card charges on her bank statement.

Bank officials located a number of other customers with similar unauthorized charges to their debit cards.
