Sazka Launches Online Operations

Czech gaming operator Sazka AS has announced that it has launched an odds betting service over the Internet after receiving permission from the nation’s Finance Ministry.

The Government for the eastern European nation announced late last month that it would authorise online gambling soon following years of lobbying by operators who promised that they would institute measures to prevent minors from betting on their sites.

“The operators must have a network of land-based outlets where their bettors need to register,” read a statement from Prague-based Sazka.

“All bettors must visit such an outlet in person and confirm, by their signatures, that they agree to the terms of betting, which also include the ban on third-party access and a condition of a single account.”

Sazka revealed that four other companies, Fortuna Group, Chance, Synot Tip and TipSport, had also received authorisation to operate online bookmaking services. It stated that all operators would be subject to regulations under the Gaming Act and pay administration and supervision fees with a portion of their profits going to charity.

“The server where the betting takes place must be located in the Czech Republic with the software used to be subject to certification by an authorised authority and the operators to be obliged to allow State supervision’s online access to the system,” read the statement from Sazka.
