Super Bowl Betting Immune To Economic Downturn
By Staff
Despite the current global economic downturn, preliminary figures suggest that the betting on last Sunday’s Super Bowl XLIII in Tampa, Florida, was similar to last year’s event.

According to a piece from Las Vegas Sun newspaper on Monday, the Las Vegas Hilton casino revealed that last year’s event drew $92 million to sportsbooks while it expects initial figures for this year’s event to be around the same.

“We don’t have all the numbers in yet but early numbers indicate it should be similar to last year, which is a lot better than many had anticipated,” said Jay Kornegay, Executive Director for the casino’s race and sportsbooks.

“It says a lot about the event. Despite some things being bad around us people are willing to forget that for awhile, put some money on the Super Bowl and enjoy the weekend.”

Sunday’s Super Bowl saw the heavily favoured Pittsburgh Steelers win their sixth NFL title by a score of 27 to 23 despite opponents Arizona scoring 16 points in the final quarter.
