Online poker player ‘huztlerCrew’ won the Sunday Million tournament at PokerStars.com over the weekend to take home $150,000 after defeating fellow competitor ‘MCLegend’ heads-up.
As Super Bowl XLIII kicked off in Tampa, Florida, on Sunday, 7,513 players sat down to take their shot at a six-figure payday and created a prize pool of $1,502,600.
The Sunday Million eventually saw 1,080 player cash and one name remained as the field dwindled to its final few tables, ‘BodogAri’, the winner of the Sunday Warm-Up competition and its prize of over $80,000. He was third in chips and had built up an award of $116,613 as the field got down to its three remaining players. ‘MC Legend’ led the chip and prize race with $127,518 followed by ‘huztlerCrew’ with $120,000 before all three agreed to set aside their money and play for a remaining $30,000.
Finishing in fourth spot was ‘FRfr1111’ for $69,119 while ‘voujizz’ took home $54,093 for a fifth place finish. ‘Kripp85’ won $39,067 for sixth followed by ‘niuniu09’ with $26,295 in seventh, ‘kiaser’ with$17,279 for eighth and ‘freakypokerd’ with $10,518,20 for ninth.
With a final deal in place, ‘Bodog Ari’ was the first to crash out on the eighth hand leaving ‘HuztlerCrew’ to go head to head with Copenhagen’s ‘huztlerCrew’.
Just over a dozen more hands would follow and the final game saw ‘MCLegend’ open-shoved for 15.9 million and ‘huztlerCrew’ calling. The ace of diamonds and eight of clubs held by ‘MCLegend’ led the king of diamonds and four of hearts of ‘huztlerCrew’ when the flop came down as a nine of clubs, nine of spade and five of hearts. However, the four of clubs hit the turn, shifting the lead to ‘huztlerCrew’. ‘MCLegend’ then needed an ace or an eight to survive but didn’t get the help he needed.
