Bush Policy on Online Gaming Fraught with Contradiction
By Linda
The US Department of Justice declared that online gambling did indeed the US Federal Wire act in a statement made last week. However, is the policy sound. Criticism from policy experts seems to indicate that it is. Furthermore, online gaming now looks set to become a political bargaining chip.

Gaming Attorney Lawrence Walters shares his views in this exclusive interview with OnlineCasinoNews.com:

“As a practical matter, the recent advisory opinion only confirms the party line from the Department Of Justice, which has been: Online Gambling is illegal under the Wire Act. This confirmation does nothing to explain why Congress is attempting to pass new legislation to close the 'loophole' for online transactions with a licensed casino. Nor does this statement assist in clarifying the current conflict among the federal courts regarding the applicability of the Wire Act to Internet gambling. Despite the relative insignificance of this announcement, it is yet another blow to the industry which is already reeling from the pull out by major payment processors, who have defected from the industry out of concern over the uncertain legal territory.”

And as the online gaming industry look set for boom in Asia and Europe, should online gaming operators re-sight their scopes from the hostilities of the United States to fruits further a field?
