|The AP reports that Ed Stanek, the Commissioner for the Iowa State Lottery, has said that an announcement about the “formation of an organization to create a global lottery could be made before the end of the year.” The worldwide lottery would include some U.S. states, including Iowa, some European countries, and Australia. |
“There have been a number of meetings to talk about various ideas. Although the discussions are getting more serious, there is no corporation, no contracts signed, no existing partnership,” Stanek said. However, a consultant has already spoken about an international lottery with representatives of the United Nations and the World Lottery Association, specifically about international gaming that would give a portion of profits to humanitarian programs run by the UN.
The WLA represents 140 lotteries from 73 countries.
