Players of the new Football Superstars virtual soccer game from London-based CyberSports Limited will now be able to spend real money online after a deal with payment service provider GlobalCollect.
CyberSports is a leading supplier of integrated virtual multi-sports worlds and recently launched the three-dimensional massively multiplayer online game (MMOG) Football Superstars for soccer fans along with casual and hardcore gamers.
Football Superstars is the first MMOG to combine a traditional interactive football game with the virtual lifestyle experience of a soccer star. On the pitch, each player controls one character as they compete in national and international tournaments. In addition, users can socialise via their characters off the pitch in virtual bars and clubs while spending real money on accessories for their player.
CyberSports revealed that connecting to GlobalCollect’s WebConnect single-interface online payment platform would enable participants in the Football Superstars community to pay for these goods with local and international credit and debit cards. It stated that the next phase would see it expand its array of payment methods to include direct debit, real-time bank transfers, prepaid cards and eWallets such as PayPal.
“After an extensive review of online payment service providers, we selected GlobalCollect on the basis of their experience and track record, the wide variety of payment options they offer to our customers and their robust and flexible fraud screening systems,” said Anthony Baring, Chief Financial Officer for CyberSports.
“Their implementation support has been excellent and we look forward to a productive and successful working relationship.”
“Over the last 15 years of servicing the online payment industry, we’ve gained solid experience on best practice solutions for the gaming world,” said Jan Manten, Chief Executive Officer for GlobalCollect.
“It is no coincidence that gaming is one of our key verticals and our portfolio of virtual worlds respectively MMOGs includes Linden Lab’s Second Life and Blizzard’s World Of Warcraft. We are thrilled to add CyberSports’ Football Superstars to this list of innovative games, combining state-of-the-art technology with mainstream appeal.”
