100-Year Old Fined For Playing Cards

Citing the Chinese language newspapers Ming Pao and Apple Daily as sources, the Associated Press reports that a local court fined Lee Yung-mui, a man of 100 years of age, and six other senior citizens 300 Hong Kong dollars ($38 US) each for illegally betting “on a card game in a public park.”

Card playing is popular amongst the elderly here. But gambling on cards is frowned upon by the government, which the AP reports is also, “... struggling to come up with ways to fight online gambling, another popular form of illegal gambling…”
