| It has been reported that Melbourne''s Crown Casino has paid a triad boss $2.5 million while he was running a drug dealing scheme out of the casino''s hotel rooms. The alleged drug smuggler, Ko Kon Tong got nearly $500,000 in 1998 from the casino as a "thank you" for Tong’s $420 million Baccarat play. The casino gave Tong the substantial sums of money because Tong was such a big player.|
Prosecutors in the case are alleging that Tong was laundering money through the casinos and claims that Tong have laundered as much as $45 million at a time, purchasing the casino chips with cash in checks.
According to federal agents, wiretaps and room bugs reveal that Tong had been involved in smuggling heroine and people. It is also been reported that conversations recorded in the casino rooms clearly and specifically mentioned the gang leader''s international drug trade.
