A Russian player using the pseudonym ‘innerpsy’ has set a new world record for the most number of online poker hands played in one day by competing in over 40,000 in just over 18 and a half hours.
The milestone was achieved on November 21 and was hosted by leading online poker site PokerStars.com along with Russian forum Card Game Masters.
Almost 10,000 of fans logged on to watch the action via two video streams and a live radio broadcast that featured commentary from players including Max ‘Decay’ Lykov.
After sitting down at half-past eight o’clock in the morning Moscow time, ‘innerpsy’ finished up 18 hours and 33 minutes later having completed 40,088 hands of poker.
“Before this challenge, I had never actually played more than 20,000 hands in a day before but the idea came up and I just figured I could do it,” the player was quoted by PokerStars.com.
“It was one of the toughest things I have ever accomplished but I am proud I managed it.”
The record-holder revealed that he has only been playing online poker for ‘a couple of years’ and is a regular at PokerStars.com.
“I gained a lot of experience doing this and will definitely try it again in order to improve upon my result,” said ‘innerpsy’.
“One of my main goals is also to reach Supernova Elite status.”
However, the Russian’s record might not stand for long as a player using the name ‘joeingram1’ on PokerStars.com has revealed that he intends to compete in 50,000 hands of online poker over a 24-hour period and turn a profit. The challenger revealed that he intends to utilise the $0.10/$0.25 no-limit hold’em or pot-limit Omaha tables to accomplish his feat while a webcam is planned allowing fans to follow his progress.
