(www.orbisuk.com) achieved the highest ranking for online gaming companies in what is widely recognised as the UK’s definitive survey of working satisfaction.
Following a comprehensive survey with over 230,000 employees from 964 businesses participating this year, the workforce gave their opinions in an evaluation of their organisation’s key statistics, processes and policies. Orbis Technology scored a place in the highly esteemed list by being successful in each of following key areas: Leadership, Wellbeing, My Manager, My Team, Fair Deal, Giving Something Back, My Company and Personal Growth.
Currently with over 285 employees and ever-increasing its workforce with a continual recruitment drive for more software developers, Orbis Technology is a young dynamic technology company with an average staff age of 27 years. Ranked in sixth place nationally for its overall ‘Fair Deal’, employees are pleased with their benefits (72%) which include free private healthcare, life assurance, loans, dental insurance, subsidised gym membership, performance-related pay and a share option scheme, plus an employee assistance programme and discounted services. A high majority (68%) agree that they feel fairly paid for the work they do relative to people in similar organisations and that their pay reflects their responsibilities (69%).
Other significant outcomes include the ninth highest national rating that shows most days employees do not feel exhausted when they get home from work and that they are happy with their work and life balance. Employees feel that their teammates care about each other and go out of their way to help one another (both 79% positive scores) and that colleagues are fun to work with (82%). Management also received a good score from more than three quarters of employees (76%) stating that they find management supportive with 77% agreeing that they talk openly and honestly to staff.
David Loveday, CEO of Orbis Technology, comments; “Orbis’ success is largely down to the company’s vibrant culture of technical excellence, product innovation with a strong emphasis on employee satisfaction. We offer a relaxed yet high-performance environment allowing workers to progress their careers and maintain a good quality of life.”
Richard Mortimer, Vice President Human Resources, Orbis Technology, adds; “All of our technical managers and directors joined as graduate software developers which gives a clear indication of our strong culture of promotion from within. With a successful mentoring system embedded in our infrastructure and solid career progression together with great staff benefits and fun social events on offer, we are confident we will continue growing and nurturing talent in a healthy entrepreneurial environment.”
Orbis has also been awarded Two Star Status in Best Companies Accreditation 2010, one of just 255 of the 1,086 companies that applied for the scheme to acknowledge excellence in the workplace that is entirely based on staff feedback.
Jonathan Austin, CEO and Founder of Best Companies, comments; “We would like to congratulate Orbis Technology on their outstanding achievement. An engaged workforce is essential as organisations move into a more stable economic situation. No doubt many organisations have tackled redundancies and rapid change this year. But organisations like Orbis Technology that have kept on engaging their staff and making sure they are involved in the business will be in a good position for the future and should be congratulated for their efforts”.

Accreditation
The Accreditation scheme, developed by Best Companies, is based on a star rating system where one star is first class, two stars are outstanding, and three stars are extraordinary. Organisational successes have been defined using data from the 2010 Best Companies to Work For survey which involved surveying 276,057 employees from the 1,086 companies that completed the accreditation process. The Best Companies survey is designed to measure employee engagement and uses 70
questions to gain a comprehensive view of employee engagement across eight factors. Every company that goes for Best Companies Accreditation is given a Best Companies Index score (BCI). This score (on a scale of 1 to 1000) is defined from employees’ responses to the sixteen key questions within the Best Companies survey. ‘Star Status’ is determined by the ‘BCI’ score and the specific cut-off points for One, Two, and Three Star Accreditation remain constant year on year.
Accreditation in 2010
This year, 1,086 organisations entered the Best Companies Accreditation. From these companies Best Companies received survey responses from over 257,513 employees since September. Overall, 410 organisations achieved Star Status accreditation this year, and
